    Notes:

  • Any person seeking admission to the Observation Tower must pay the admission fee for the Park along with the admission fee for the Tower.
  • State Park Season Passes and Senior Citizen Passes are not honored for admission to the Observation Tower, but do count for admission to the Historic Site.
  • Group Exemptions do not apply to the Observation Tower.
  • *National Park Senior Passes to not apply to Maine Historic Sites

The Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management will be issuing passes to eligible Veterans and Military personal as defined in LD 456 "An Act To Provide Free Admission to State Parks to Veterans and Military Personnel"

 Veterans & Military Personnel must provide a pass issued by the Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management for entrance into Maine State Parks and Historic Sites.

In order to determine eligibility and receive a pass Veterans and Military personal must contact The Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management at 626-4271 . 

2. What are the operating hours for Fort Knox and the Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory?

Fort Knox itself is open May 1, until November 1, during the operating season the park opens at 8:30 and closes at sunset. During the "off-season" the Fort is closed, but the grounds are open for use.

3. What about passes and/or discounts?

State Park Passes are honored at Fort Knox, for admission to the Fort only. See fee schedule for more details. The following passes can be purchased via the Friends of Fort Knox at the entrance booth during the operating season, or by clicking here.

4. Are there picnic facilities on the Fort grounds? Are pets welcome at the fort?

Yes there are picnic facilities on the Fort grounds, including BBQ grills, picnic tables and a covered pavilion. Pets (on leash) are welcome throughout the Fort, the Fort grounds, and the Visitor's Center. Pets are not allowed in the Penobscot Narrows Observatory and may not be left in a car unattended.

5. Can I reserve a picnic table and/or the pavilion?

Unfortunately we cannot reserve any area of the picnic grounds in advance, they are first come first serve. However the area is extensive enough to suit many visiting parties.

6. Can I hold a wedding or other special event at Fort Knox?

Yes! We have had many special occassions held here at Fort Knox, from wedding ceremonies and receptions, to children's birthday parties, family reunions, class reunions, parties, you name it! Your best bet is to call ahead and let the staff know that you plan on coming, how many people are in your party and other general details so we can best accomodate you. 7. How do I become a member of the Friends of Fort Knox?

To become a member of the Friends of Fort Knox all you need is to fill out this handy membership form. Yearly dues are $20 for individuals, $10 for seniors, $35 for a family membership. Membership entitles you to 10% purchases in the gift shop as well as one free admission of your choice during the operating season.
